Message for Community On Solidarity & Peace

Dear Wellnest Friends,
We are all impacted – directly and indirectly – by the loss and violence too familiar in communities of color due to historical and continued inequality and injustices felt by many. We also know that our Black brothers and sisters are disproportionately targeted and impacted. Wellnest deals on a daily basis with the profoundly traumatic consequences of violence perpetrated on communities of color. When you step back and look at events as a whole, they represent a history of sustained cultural disruption and community destruction.
Let’s stand in solidarity with our local community leaders to peacefully protest to express ourselves and address the systemic and structural inequities that have existed, and continue to exist, in communities of color. Collectively we can turn anger and resentment behind these protests into opportunities of fundamental change as it relates to the social, racial, educational and health disparities to make a meaningful and impactful change.
Every single day, we do this through our work at Wellnest by working with children and families to build a better future and “just” community for themselves and others. Our dedicated staff play an important role in lifting their voices so that empathy, love and peace will help bring the civil unrest to an end so that the healing can begin.
The families of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor are in our prayers as they grieve the loss of their loved ones. Let’s keep Martin Luther King Jr.’s voice on equality in our lives and continue to inspire peace, love and justice for all people: “Make a career of humanity. Commit yourself to the noble struggle for equal rights. You will make a greater person of yourself, a greater nation of your country, and a finer world to live in.”
Yours in Peace and Solidarity,
Charlene Dimas-Peinado President & CEO
