Dear Wellnest Community,

We want to share important information with you regarding recent changes announced by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and what they may mean for our community.

The Department has rescinded previous guidelines that identified certain locations – such as schools, hospitals, and places of worship – as protected areas from immigration enforcement actions. As a result, healthcare facilities, including Wellnest, are no longer designated as protected areas from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

However, it is important to know that all Wellnest buildings are private property. ICE agents cannot enter private areas without a valid judicial warrant or the consent of an authorized representative.

Supporting Our Community During a Difficult Time

We recognize that this current geopolitical landscape is creating significant fear, stress, and uncertainty – particularly for children, youth, and families. Many in our community may be experiencing heightened anxiety, depression, difficulty concentrating, changes in sleep, or emotional distress. Children are especially sensitive to the stress felt by adults around them, and these moments can feel overwhelming.

At Wellnest, we believe that mental health is health. Taking care of ourselves and one another during times like these is essential. Please know that you are not alone, and support is available.

Tips to Help Our Community Stay Prepared and Safe

1. Carry important documents with you, such as passports, driver’s licenses, work permits, visas, or other legal documentation.

2. Bring copies of important documents with you when you come to Wellnest for appointments.

3. Know your rights: You are not required to answer questions about your immigration status. You do not need to provide personal information unless ICE presents a valid judicial warrant.

4. Identify a trusted contact: Inform a family member or trusted friend about your appointments and whereabouts, and designate an emergency contact if you have not already done so.

5. Seek legal guidance: Consulting with an immigration attorney or trusted organization may be helpful. You can learn more by visiting the National Immigrant Justice Center website.
