Meet Anthony Durham,
Director of Intensive Services

Dr. Anthony Durham, DPA, LCSW, Director of Intensive Services at Wellnest, has spent the last seven years expanding access to culturally responsive, trauma-informed mental health care for young adults and families across Los Angeles. As part of Wellnest’s Ask the Expert series, Dr. Durham shared insight into the barriers many Black and Brown youth face when seeking mental health support, including stigma, systemic inequities, financial stress, and lack of culturally responsive care.

He emphasized the importance of meeting communities where they are through schools, community spaces, bilingual services, and trusted partnerships. Dr. Durham also highlighted the growing impact of holistic, community-centered healing approaches that blend traditional therapy with mindfulness, peer support, and culturally rooted practices. His advice for the next generation of mental health professionals? “Practice cultural humility, build authentic relationships within communities, and stay committed to lifelong learning and advocacy.” Read his full article by clicking here.

Meet Betty Mendoza,
Director of Outpatient Services

Betty Mendoza, LCSW, is the Director of Outpatient Services at Wellnest’s Leimert Park location, where she oversees three programs: Outpatient Services, Telehealth Services, and the Mind, Body & Heart Program at White Memorial Hospital. With 27 years at Wellnest, Betty is dedicated to improving access to quality mental health care, especially for the Latino community, by integrating culturally responsive approaches, wellness practices, and strong community partnerships.
One major challenge she observes is how therapists balance professional and personal demands while navigating financial and emotional stressors. “This is a rewarding but demanding profession,” she shares. “We have to be intentional about maintaining balance and remembering why we chose this path.” Her advice for future professionals? “Be patient, organized, and grounded in empathy, these qualities will sustain you through the challenges.” Read her entire article by clicking here.

Meet Adam Sternberg,
Director of Outpatient Services

Adam is the Director of Outpatient Services at Wellnest’s Exposition Park location, where he oversees five programs, including centralized enrollment (Access), Outpatient Services, Psychiatric Services, School-Linked Services, and a pre-doctoral training program. He focuses on supporting his staff of professionals, procedures, and training to ensure high-quality clinical care while supporting program improvements that respond to both Wellnest and the community’s needs.

One challenge he sees today is how technology continues to outpace clinical practice. “Finding the right balance between in-person and telehealth services remains a challenge,” he notes, especially when considering risk factors and the quality of therapeutic connection. Wellnest addresses this by offering a hybrid model and evaluating what’s clinically appropriate for each client. His advice for the next generation? “Stay connected to your personal mission and values… knowing why you chose this path will help sustain you through the tougher moments.” Read his entire article by clicking here.
